Tuesday, Thursday

8:45 – 9:00am
Arrival Time
–There is a teacher at the front door to welcome the children to school.  Parents are encouraged to say good-bye at the door so that the children can begin to adjust to their day at school right away.  The teachers are available to help the children hang up their coats and backpacks.

8:45 – 9:45am
Free Play
 -  Each of the three classroom are divided into various learning centers. Children have time during free play to interact with one another and with curriculum materials in each center. We have a play dough table, block area, music center, and a dramatic play area with dress-up. There is also an indoor water/sand table, library, a table for small manipulatives, and an art area.  Once free play is complete the children along with the teachers will pick up and get ready for story time.

9:45 – 10:15am
Story/Circle Time
–  The children from all three classes will gather together for story time.  Many forms of story telling are used such as the traditional picture books, big books, flannel board stories and interactive stories.  We also introduce the children to various styles of poems.  Circle time is also a time to introduce new activities, events while giving the children the opportunity to speak to the group.

10:15 –10:45am
Project Time - During project time the children will go to their assigned class room with their assigned teacher.  Special art activities are planned each day.  Many activities are planned around seasons, holidays or special events. Children use traditional materials such as paint, glue and markers as well as more unusual ones such as modeling clay, wood, fabric and pipe cleaners.  Here at Brookside we put the emphasis on the process rather than on the end product. We also provide an open-ended art area with a variety of materials accessible to children Our teachers understand the importance of the exploratory process to children who are experimenting with art materials.

During project time we also take the time to work on our literacy curriculum.  We encourage writing across the early childhood curriculum.  The teachers facilitate phonetic awareness within the context of the materials the children are using.  Alphabet books are made by all the children.

10:45 – 11:15
Special Activity - The children will be introduced to special activities that will supplement the ongoing curriculum.

11:15 – 11:30
